Challenge

The primary challenge in designing this taxi-sharing app lies in creating a seamless and intuitive user experience that balances the dynamic interactions between users arranging rides with friends and those willing to share rides with strangers—ensuring both convenience and security while fostering a sense of community within the app. Additionally, striking the right balance between functionality and a fun, youthful vibe poses a challenge to maintain an engaging and trustworthy platform for users of varying comfort levels with ride-sharing.

Approach

In crafting the HopOn UX, the focus is on integrating friend-based and stranger-based ride-sharing experiences with meticulous attention to safety features, addressing diverse user needs, and infusing the interface with a dynamic and vibrant design to enhance both convenience and community engagement.

Introduction

PROCESS

In the initial phase, thorough user research and competitive analysis informed the project, leading to the creation of detailed personas and the establishment of design criteria. Subsequently, the design process unfolded seamlessly through user flows, wireframing, and polished UI design, ensuring a user-centric and competitive edge for the project.

Even though there are multiple applications for taxi sharing, this research focuses on UberX Share and Lyft Line since they have the biggest share of the market and user insight. In the presentation, it will be only given the cumulative report of the user experience for both applications.

woman-3 1.png

Used only once and she had no problems, she used it because there was no public transportation.
Now wouldn’t use it in the city, she is afraid of harassment.
When she goes out she shares taxi with her friends but sometimes their friends don’t pay her back and she cannot ask.
If they are going to share taxi they do it with a regular cab because it’s easier to explain the locations.

Used UberPool several times because it was cheaper.
Doesn’t mind people inside.
Was sharing taxi with other people when she waiting for a bus in a certain route and there people were asking each to share a taxi.
She was only doing this with females.

He thinks the time he loses is not worth to the money save.
If it’s a long distance he might consider.
His fear: people being drunk and disturbing or not knowing what kind of people will be there.

Greg - 30

Never uses taxi sharing, he doesn’t like uncertain situations.
He fears that people will be disturbing and it will take too much time.
Even the possibility of people wanting to speak with him during the ride disturbs him.
He was sharing a car with his coworker while going to work and paying him half of the gas price.

UI DESIGN

We started the UI process with color selection. Colors should match the idea of the product.

They should have the feeling of dynamism on people and they should also create a friendly environment for the food they come across in the application.

We used rounded corners in the components to make the app more friendly and easy to follow rather than making it strong and too sharp.

Personal Notes

PERSONAL NOTES ABOUT THE PROJECT

What I liked

HoppOn is a very fun and dynamic project to work on and to work on. I liked understanding this user need. It covers a lot of problems in one app. And even though it seems easy to process in the first glance it brought a lot of challenges that I enjoyed to overcome.

What I would improve

I would improve the business part for the companies providing this to their employees who are living closer. Other than that I would prioritise the cleanness of the pages over trying to decrease number of pages and make some pages cleaner.
